Cuba after Castro Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba on December 31, 1959. Expropriation, nationalization of the industry and the departure of more than two and a half million Cubans followed. But also the advancement of health care and education, and a continuing struggle to turn Cuba into an ideal communist state. In Miami the great countdown has begun. The Cubans who have fled the socialist experiment over the past 45 years have faith again. The momentum is there, or at least close, so the exiles in Miami hope. They'll soon be able to take possession of Cuba again and start reconstruction, from communist utopia to Caribbean investment paradise. In Miami, where 1.2 million Cuban exiles live, Cuban organizations, companies and people are ready for the post-Castro era. This documentary takes stock of the scenarios people in Miami envision for Cuba after Castro and of thepossible consequences for the island and its inhabitants. Trio Servando Diaz - 78t Pan-Art - Ya tu pollo no pia - 3m26s : - 1,4 mo" LAWRENCE TIBETT stars in film CUBAN LOVE SONG (year 1931) This review from www.imdb.com "Lawrence Tibbett had a varied and distinguished career at the Met. In "Metropolitan," he got to sing operatic arias. The music here is schmaltz, though he delivers it with great beauty. He strides around the sound stage as if on a theatrical stage -- but that's not a problem. The movie itself is fairly silly. Jimmy Durante is somewhat restrained as his military buddy. And, lucky guy! He has romances with two lovely ladies. Karen Morley is the kind woman back home. And that famous Cuban Lupe Velez is the peanut-seller he meets while in the service. Velez is allowed little of the fieriness and tantrums that marked her "Mexican Spitfire" series and most other movies I've seen her in. She appealing. I won't give anything away. (It's far from a work of art or a suspenseful movie, anyway.) However, the plot does seem a Hollywood riff on "Madame Butterfly."" THE CUBAN LOVE SONG FILM (1931) "The Cuban Love Song Synopsis Run Time: 1 hr. 20 min. Cast: Lawrence Tibbett, Lupe Velez, Karen Morley, Hale Hamilton Director: W.S. Van Dyke Genre: Musical Romance, Drama, Musical, Romance Movie Details Full Synopsis Cast & Crew Related Movies MGM had hopes of turning Metropolitan opera singer Lawrence Tibbett into a movie star, but Cuban Love Song brought this two-year project to an end. Tibbett plays a cocky marine stationed in Havana, who devotes his attention to voluptuous Cuban peanut vendor Lupe Velez. He serenades her with "The Peanut Song" several times in the course of the film, and Velez falls madly in love. But Tibbett is the "love 'em and leave 'em" type, and when World War One breaks out he drops Velez like a hot tamale and heads for Europe. Ten years pass: Tibbett returns to Cuba, only to discover that Velez has died...and then he meets a cute 9-year-old "orphan" boy whose favorite tune is "The Peanut Song". Cuban Love Song is highlighted by an uproariously graphic "castor oil" gag involving supporting actor Jimmy Durante. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide Tags:[Havana][Cuba][Habana][ElSonCubano][Buena][Vista][Social][Club][CubanLoveSong][RitaMontaner][TrioServandoDiaz][LawrenceTibbett] |

Cuban Salsa Suelta - Havana, Cuba Clip of the Boogalu Productions DVD "Salsa Suelta Candela". for complete info go to the website: http://www.boogalu.com/generic137.html Salsa Suelta means "loose salsa" ...salsa danced without a partner. Have you seen those great step routines many salsa band members do on stage? The Cubans call it salsa suelta. Similar to rueda de casino, salsa suelta is initiated when people want to party and dance together as a larger group. But instead of dancing in a circle as in rueda, salsa suelta is danced in lines. With an emphasis on step routines combined with an imaginative variety of gestures and moves, salsa suelta is an easy going dance style that can be learned as you go. Because there is no partner involved it can be danced: ~ in mixed groups large and small ~ by yourself ~ when you want to break apart in regular salsa dancing ~ as a way to teach salsa steps and salsa choreographies This DVD features Cuban style salsa suelta inspired from the dance culture of the barrios of Havana. The moves have evolved from a variety of Cuban dance traditions including rumba, orisha dance, son, cha cha cha, mambo, casino, plus the more modern influences of timba and hip hop. The steps, routines, and changes are initiated by a leader who can direct the action using a variety of techniques including: - calling out the name of the moves - hand gestures - demonstrating with their body Leaders repeat the steps and moves long enough for followers to catch on. Followers imitate what the leader is doing and change steps when the leader changes. The Salsa Suelta Candela DVD has six sections: 1- Introduction 2- Salsa Suelta Performance 3- Salsa Suelta Basic Steps 4- Combination Moves Advanced 5- Dancing On and Off the Beat 6- Combination Moves Beginning Tags:[salsa][cuba][dance][rumba][cuban][conga][latin][rueda][orisha] |
