Director's Note: No idea why I made this. Sorry it's so late! In somewhat related news: Cloverfield, hmm? I wonder... There was a trailer for a new J.J. Abrams project (Alias, Lost, Felicity, MI: III) that seemed to be for some sort of Japanese-style kaiju/monster movie, due out 1-18-08. Perhaps J.J. is seeking to cleanse the palate of American Godzilla fans who still shudder at the 1998 debacle. Hints in the trailer, shot reality-tv style with a hand-held video camera, include the fact that the main character is moving to Japan, there are Japanese toys in the background, sushi is being served and a Japanese curtain is part of the decor. CLEARLY, some Japanaphile action going on in the set dressing. This would be a great and unique take on Godzilla, if they're brave enough to have given it another shot. Brinstar Depths - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Melee Could they have made this stage title any more ambiguous? Other than that and Kraid, there's not a lot to this stage. Let's hope for better Metroid stages in Brawl. For some reason, the video turned out a little darker on YouTube than it is in my finished product. (I guess the compression killed it, even though there's not really a lot of compression artifacts.) So when looking around Brinstar Depths, I was expecting more detail to show up. And these are the worst Kraid fights ever. I like how I keep firing into Kraid's spikes like a retard and that Kraid's fingernails block Samus's Super Missles. Xasthur - Abysmal Depths Are Flooded Xasthur is a one man American Black Metal band founded by Malefic and first had a drummer by the name of Ritual. Ritual left and from the on Xasthur was sole musician of the "band". Malefic hails from California in the US and is one of the most miserable & nihilistic musician/misanthropes to roam the Earth. His projects are usually full of pitch black production and evil "buzz", along with traces of psychodelic sound and distant sounding drums, much like the infamous Burzum. The vocals are abyssial and otherworldly, and full of hate and anguish Some call Xasthur's music "Suicidal Black Metal", however this is open to dispute. The lyrics are certainly anti-life in their nature, and many times dealing with the supernatural, what lies after death, etc. This particular track, Abysmal Depths Are Flooded, is from the album Telepathic With The Deceased, Xasthur's 3rd full length album. Listening to the albums in dark seclusion is always fastinating, the first time I did, putting my imagination to it, some of the songs literally scared the shit out of me. This music is not your average BM. It has an atmosphere like no other. If you ae into this kind of BM there are more groups popping up like this, I personally however don't listen to it all the time. It is good however. What I did for the video was really try to go for something GRIM. So I spliced together a couple things, including a show about buddihism and death among others, and combine it. The approach was to make something like a guy having a bad nightmare or an "old hag" attack if you know what that is, on video set to the music, and the clips combined with experiences of bad dreams I've had myself certainly helped. The man sleeping in bed has a terrible bad dream about the world ending and his soul falling into an abyssial void, along with other inexplainable visions. While the "Xastur", which is a Sumerian entity that attacks people in thier sleep, works its horrors on the poor man. Anyone out there think this has happened to YOU?
